The Sundarban Chirst Rural Development Society is a non-profit making villages organization founded by myself Dijendra Gayen in 1985 and holds no discrimination against cast, creed or religion, and is recognized and is registered by the government of India in 1995.

The village is in a remote part of India (West Bengal) is undeveloped and by a riverside. A large number of the population is scheduled caste and scheduled tribes (tribal people). This means they are considered of a very low caste in our Indian society. The villages is continually affected by natural disasters such as cyclones, overflowing rivers, mudslides, heavy rains and flooding, which spoils all crops and takes away the little livestock they have, is goats, cows etc.

They are extremely underprivileged and deprived of any opportunities regarding human rights and values. There is no school, clinics or doctors, Government or Private Clinics are so far away and the only means of transport is by boat, which is only possible at high tide. As a result adults and children are all lacking in general health care and nutrition, due to this there is a lot of problems with disease and premature deaths.

At present we are running 12 pre-primary centers caring for 642 children, as well as 125 orphans, 76 aged and 34 handicapped. We provide them with basic food, medical health and education, managing to support them with the help of the local village people.

The centers are made out of mud built by the locals and money coming in is donated. Because of this we cannot afford to build the centers that we urgently require to provide shelter for the orphans, the aged and the handicapped.

We have a team of dedicated and committed people who give their time and energy generously but we are seriously short of funds. No donation is too small, so I appeal to everyone to help and support these very proud and hardworking people and give them a chance for better life.

Social Scenario

Poverty is the greatest threat to political stability, social cohesion and environmental health of the human races of this planet. Poverty creates a condition in the society, which negates all human rights, not just a selected few. A poor person has no right at all, whether social, political or economical.

Few existing tube wells and ponds provide unhygienic water due to use of which many adults and children suffering from gastroentitis and skin diseases.
